Smart Choices For Buying Your Digital SLR Camera

Canon Eos 40d Digital Slr Camera So you've heard about digital SLR cameras. Granted, there's a lot of hype; rightfully so. But thankfully there are a heap to choose from that will likely fit your budget. Here we've reviewed the best 10 digital SLR cameras, all for less than $500.

At the top of the list is the Canon Rebel XSi digital SLR camera. This device boasts an impressive 12.2 MP to guarantee retained quality from PC to print. With a 3" LCD, a DIGIC III imaging CPU, advanced EOS self-cleaning system, and an EF-S 18~55mm f/3.5~5.6 lens you can't go wrong. Images are ready for storage on SD and SDHC memory.

In close second is the famous Nikon D90 DX digital SLR camera. Rated at 12.3 MP, it comes with an 18~105mm f/3.5~5.6G VR ED lens, 3" increased density 920K dot full color LCD, and also Nikon's own SRS (Scene Recognition System). This unique feature gives the photographer an 11-area auto-focusing advantage.

The Nikon D60 digital SLR camera is rated at slightly less megapixels-10.2; however, it is equipped with an AF-S DX Nikkor 18~55mm f/3.5~5.6G reduced vibration lens and a 2.5" LCD, making for greater portability. It also sports a dust reduction system (ADRS) to prevent damage to your camera in dusty environments.

For unmatched resolution and quality, the Canon EOS 50D digital SLR camera is the way to go. With 15.1 MP of detail to offer, a 28~135mm f/3.5~5.6 USM IS lens, Face Detection, Enhanced Live View, and a DIGIC 4 imaging CPU, this digital SLR camera is a real contender.

The Nikon D80 digital SLR camera provides a modest 10.2 MP of shooting quality and an 18~35mm AF-S DX Nikkor lens. You'll be sure to get consistent clarity and color quality with this one.

The Canon Eos 40d Digital Slr Camera offers 10 megapixels, an EF 28~135mm f/3.5~5.6 USM IS lens, 3" LCD, and 6.5 FPS in a continuous shoot mode.

In at number seven is the Nikon D300DX with 12.3 MP, a 3" LCD, an 18~35mm f/3.5~5.6G AF-S DX ED-IF Nikkor lens, an automatic cleaning unit, and auto-focusing from 51 points. You can even get up to 100 shots while in burst shoot mode while maintaining all 12.3 megapixels!

Another great digital SLR camera is the Olympus Evolt E-150. It has 10 MP, a 2.5" HyperCrystal LCD, Mechanical Image Stabilization, and Supersonic Wave Drive. It also comes with two lenses: a 14~42 f/3.5~5.6 and a 40~150mm f/4.0~5.6 from Zuiko. You can store your media on xD, Micro Drive, and CF cards.

In ninth place is the Nikon D700 digital SLR camera, with 12.1 MP, excellent speed, an EXPEED imaging CPU, scene recognition, and Nikon's Control System that allows for tone, brightness, and sharpening adjustments on-the-fly.

Still strong in last place is the Canon Rebel XS digital SLR camera. Having 10.1 MP, an EFS 18~55mm f/3.5~5.6 IS lens and DIGIC 3 imaging CPU this is still a solid choice for the intermediate photo enthusiast.

So there are a wealth of great digital SLR cameras out there. These are some of the best on the market with budget-friendly prices. The good news is that, these days, the technology is mostly up to par with everyday demands from the end-user. Stick to these brands for satisfaction.

Is the Nikon D80 or Canon EOS 40D digital SLR camera a better choice?
I will soon begin doing some photography on the side and am interested in purchasing a good, quality camera. I'm new to the digital SLR cameras and need some advice on which camera is a better purchase for photographers.

Basic kit for a beginner with Canon 40d?
I have just purchased the following: Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera (incl. EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens Kit) SanDisk CompactFlash 4GB Extreme III Memory Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens Now I have very limited budget left to spend but wondered if there are any other essential items I need to get started. For example, can anyone recommend a suitable bag/case? I assume the camera comes with a battery - I will be well disappointed if not. Is a tripod or flash gun essential? I am new to DSLR cameras, my previous camera being an Olympus C7070 Wide Zoom compact. Thanks Paul
