Canon Rebel T2i vs Canon 7D - Are These Cameras Created Equal
The digital slr camera question of the day - is the new Canon Rebel T2i a substitute for the more expensive Canon 7D? A review of the similarities and differences.
Many consumers are psyched about this new digital camera. It was only a short time ago that Canon introduced the Canon 7D which appears to have been accepted by the photographic world with adoration and praise.
Nevertheless consider this. Camera forums are exploding with comments about these two new models. And particularly that they could possibly be interchangeable.
Is this possible?
There are a couple of reasons that this has been mentioned. First, the two cameras share a similar image sensor size at 18 megapixels. Another reason is the video functionality. Each can take 1080p HD video. So, with these two similarities, are they not equal?
The response is a unquestionable NO!
While both are excellent cameras, they are not equal. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they were, though? You could simply just buy the Canon Rebel T2i vs the Canon 7D and save 50% right off the top. That's $800 as opposed to $1600.
However they are not the same.
Here are several distinctions:
* First and most evident when you hold the two cameras, you would observe a dissimilarity in the construction. The Canon 7D has a magnesium body with weather resistant seals, while the T2i is made with some metal parts, but not nearly as well built as its elder brother.
* Second is the burst rate. Burst rate is the number of frames per second that can be recorded. It's 8.0 frames per second vs 3.7 frames per second. A clear win for the more advanced big brother.
* Third is the control features. The 7D is a lot more powerful when you evaluate the quantity of control you have as a photographer. It is simply just a lot more professional than the newer digital SLR.
So, while the Canon Rebel T2i is a "gem of technology", it just isn't a 7D. And Canon by no means said it was.
The manufacturer does, nevertheless, refer to the comparable movie mode. And each of these digital SLRs take amazing HD video.
The bottom line here is this: If I were entering the DSLR market today, I would definitely buy a Canon Rebel T2i. It is an awesome entry level Digital slr at its present price.
If, on the other hand, I could possibly purchase a Canon 7D in lieu of a T2i, there is no doubt I would take that choice at the drop of a hat.
